Deposits of Amethysts my also contain other quartz deposits of quartz types. These quartz deposits may have a range in color from white, rose, smoky, and yellow. The smoky and yellow usually comes from being heated.
Amethyst geodes and other quartz are formed in a spherical rock and the base of the crystal is a six sided prism growing inward from the matrix of the rock exterior and ending in a six sided pyramid.
Some of the largest Amethyst mines are found in Brazil. There are other mines around the world including, Canada, U.S., and Argentina. The mine in Brazil uses several hundred workers to do the delicate recovery by hand.
Workers remove much of the rock from a dig and fill the cavity with water and dissolved minerals. This procedure helps grow the crystals. As long as there is moisture the crystals grow. When the geodes are ready the rock is blasted away and the undamaged rocks are collected and a small whole is drilled so that the interior can be viewed. The rocks are cut open and the individual geodes are harvested into smaller piece for use in the gem market. many of the rocks are opened and displayed in their original formation.

Onyx Bowl
Take a slab of Amethyst Geode exposing the beautiful purple crystals and place it in a black onyx bowel and add a water pump and a fountain has been created. You can flow the water down the length of the structure or you can create a bowl, place a sphere in it and float the sphere on a bed of water. The effect is quite soothing and beautiful. A black or white bowel with stand accents the purple geodes. If you select a smoky geode it will go well with green and brown bowels. The darker purple to almost blue geodes are enhanced with white bowels. You may bring out the colors with lighting. Lighting may be reflected off the geodes or inserted into the rock and emanate light through the geode crystals. However you chose to enhance and display your fountain it can be used as a statement of elegance or for creating a mood of peaceful tranquility in your home.
